Alexandros Dionatos photo

Born in Athens in 1971. He studied piano with Reima Raias, counterpoint and fugue with Panagiotis Adam and composition with Iosif Papadatos. In 2002 he earned his Composition Diploma with unanimous high marks and second prize. At the same time he studied Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. In the period 1990-2001 he collaborated with significant professional choirs as chorister.

He has conducted several choir ensembles in a wide repertoire. In May 1998 he conducted the motet Jesu meine Freude by J.S. Bach at a concert held at the former American base. He is the author of the original monograph: Igor Stravinski, AGON: A Measure by Measure Analysis.

Compositions of his that have been performed include: Quintet (1997) for a quintet of low strings, In Memoriam – Three Sketches for Five Instrumentalists (2001), Wishes for the Clothes of Heaven (2001) song for baritone and piano on poetry by W. B. Yeats, Variations (2002) for mixed choir on poetry by K. Hatzopoulos. He has been teaching advanced music theory since 1990. He has a particular interest in Renaissance and Baroque counterpoint.
